| Grandparents have always played a role in raising children whose parents could not, for a variety of reasons raise the children themselves. While exact numbers are difficult to establish, it appears that in 1998 about 2.1 million children lived in the homes of relatives without a parent being present. About 67% of these live with grandparents. |
| St. Clair Consulting is partnering with the Baltimore City Commission on Aging and Retirement Education to identify and provide supports to grandparents raising grandchildren throughout Baltimore City. The model that we will use is highly supportive and innovative. We will work to develop support groups, tutoring, mentoring, legal support and grandparent housing. |
| We are working with various public schools in Baltimore to establish grandparent as parent support groups as a first step in establishing supportive services for grandparent mentoring programs and tutoring programs for grandchildren. |
